IDlab at HSE April conference

IdLab members presented their papers in sports economics and government support.

Aleksei Chmykhov presented a paper prepared jointly with Petr Parshakov. The study takes a look at the impact of limit on foreign players introduction on the football players in the Russian Football Premier League. The problem of the limit on foreign players is relevant due to numerous discussions going on nowadays even though the limit was introduced nearly ten years ago to protect Russian players from the foreign competition. The limit aimed to provide Russian players with more chances to develop their skills through more playing time. The authors have found that the introduction of the limit is not an effective decision to provide Russian players with more playing time and Russian football authorities should consider other ways to make Russian players become more competitive.

Petr also presented a paper joint with Dennis Coates. They studied if the prize distribution in eSport follows tournament theory. The authors found that the prize spreads in eSports follows tournament theory, but there is a difference between the motivation of groups and individuals. This difference increases along with the reward and the status of the competition.
