On Friday, February 2, the workshop on sports economics was held by Elena Shakina, who discussed an paper on the economics of football. The title of the paper is “Fan Preferences: Uncertainty vs. Brand”.

Research Workshop on Sports Economics

The study examines and compares the attendance of football matches in Brazil and compares two factors: uncertainty (matches with a high level of competition between teams) and the “brand” (team players who are considered the strongest and most recognizable teams).
The main feature of the Brazilian championship is that matches can take place between teams from different divisions, which allows a better understanding of the impact of uncertainty.
