Researchers from IDLab presented their projects at the Fall Into ML 2024 conference
At the end of October, the Higher School of Economics hosted the Fall Into ML 2024 conference, organized jointly with the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of Sberbank. This annual event served as a platform for leading experts from Sberbank, AIRI, Skoltech, HSE, and other research centers and companies to discuss the latest approaches in the application of artificial intelligence. For the first time, researchers from the International Laboratory of Intangible-driven Economy (IDLab) presented their research findings at such a high-level conference.
The program of Fall Into ML 2024 included presentations, poster sessions, and workshops on topics such as generative neural networks, AI in finance, and bioinformatics. One of the significant events of the conference was a workshop organized by the Laboratory for Labour Market Studies of HSE and IDLab. At this event, Marina Zavertiaeva (IDLab, Perm) and Pavel Travkin (LIRT, Moscow) presented projects implemented in 2024 in collaboration between the laboratories as part of the Strategic Projects of HSE. The research focused on labor market analysis using machine learning and artificial intelligence and generated great interest among workshop participants. Questions and comments on the projects addressed both technical aspects, including the use of language models for skill analysis, and content-related issues, such as recommendations for education in neighboring regions.

The products presented during the workshop, jointly developed by the two laboratories of HSE, represent solutions for two decision-making points in the labor market.
The first solution pertains to choosing an educational trajectory considering future opportunities in the labor market. Our unique database and machine learning methods allow us to provide salary forecasts after graduation, taking into account individual characteristics. We also help those who are still undecided, but can freely formulate their interests or desired profession
The second solution relates to entering the labor market, during which individuals need to align their skills with employer requirements. A large-scale analysis of job vacancies available in the market has enabled us to identify the skills needed for each profession, as well as to calculate the value of these skills, which distinguishes our product from similar offerings on the market. The workshop facilitated a discussion of several features of the products and potential improvements.
