IDLab Workshop

Mariia Anatolyevna Molodchik, a senior research fellow at IDLab, presented the study "Unlocking the Power of Human Capital: How SMEs Can Build Resilience" during an online seminar hosted by the laboratory. The research was conducted with the support of a grant from the Russian Science Foundation (project No. 23-78-10149, more details can be found atRSF). Marina Zavertyaeva, Dmitry Kirpishchikov, and Anastasia Kireechyova also contributed to the project as co-authors.

A new study investigates the relationship between human capital efficiency and the resilience of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Russia in the wake of recent crises, including commodity price shocks, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the imposition of international sanctions. Covering the period from 2013 to 2021 and based on data from 154,994 SMEs, the study employs a value-based management concept and a resource-based approach to assess human capital efficiency. The resilience of SMEs is evaluated using two financial indicators. To analyze the relationship between human capital efficiency and SME resilience, the fixed effects Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method is used.
