Anna Daviy presented the results of the research “Does the regional environment matter for the implementation of an ERP system? Data from Russia ", conducted under the supervision of Elena Shakina as part of the dissertation work
Drawing on the studies on technology adoption and its effect on firm performance, this paper explores the effect the regional environment has on technology-driven performance. In particular, the authors test whether regional environment, namely firm access to high-speed Internet, ICT expenditures in a region, and a share of companies that use ERP systems in a region, enhances the impact of enterprise resource planning (ERP) system adoption on firm productivity. A data set comprising about 900 of the largest Russian companies, affiliated with 18 industries, located in most of the Russian regions, for 9 years starting from 2009, is used. By disentangling two effects — the average effect of ERP adoption and the moderation effect of the regional technological environment, the authors demonstrate which ERP systems are associated with an increase in firm productivity.
