ID Lab ONLINE Research Workshop

On April 8, the regular on-line workshop took place, at which Natalya Volkova (HSE-SPB) presented

Natalia presented the preliminary results of the study “What matters for applicants’ human capital in IT, Internet and Telecom industry. A case in Russian settings ”. It is a joint research with students of the master's program “Management and analytics in business”. The paper shows that in recent years, new digital technologies have greatly affected the lives of both employees and business leaders. For job seekers, the availability of the necessary skills is a prerequisite for meeting job requirements. Similarly, for employers, recruiting job seekers with the set of necessary skills is of utmost importance. Using data from Russia's largest job board and using text mining technology, the authors studied the effects of hard and soft skills in 9162 applicants. Preliminary results show that job seekers in information technology, Internet, and telecommunications reported more sophisticated resume skills than soft skills. Some of the basic soft and complex skills include project management, team management, negotiation skills, analytic skills, presentation skills, git, javascript, sql, linux, java and HTML.
