Sports economics workshop

Russian football has shown significant progress over the past decade, resulting in the development and strengthening of the national championship - the Russian Football Premier League (RFPL). Accordingly, improving the performance of clubs is an increasingly relevant issue for management and owners. Despite the growing interest in the league, there are very few academic papers on this topic. Current empirical research fills the gap in the literature and identifies key factors for club success in the Premier League. The paper describes the current situation in the league and analyzes the factors of the main performance indicators: the amount of financing attracted, the quality of the team, sports results and attendance of matches. Based on the obtained models, we determine the specific features of Russian football, describe the main problems in the league and formulate possible solutions.
In 2018, IDLab plans to continue the tradition of holding seminars on the economics of sports every two weeks.
