Open lecture on sport economics: Financial Fair Play regulations and audit fees

On the 29th of November, the IDLab professor Angel Barajas provided a lecture on sports economics. It was the third lecture on the topic during the IDLab’s traditional session of sport economic workshops.

On the lecture professor Angel Barajas presented a paper, which analyzes if the Financial Fair Play regulations set by UEFA have influenced the auditing fees charged to the football clubs. The findings reveal that audit fees tend to increase after the implementation of FFP regulations. Moreover, audit fees are explained by the presence of foreign investors, if the audit firm is one of the Big4 and if the auditor is a woman.

In conclusion, it was highlighted, that UEFA should monitor audit fees as well as the quality of the audit reports.

The lectures will continue soon. Stay tuned!
