Petr Parshakov participated WEAI conference

Petr Parshakov presented a paper on the 91st Annual Conference of Western Economics Association International.

This paper is a project joing with Marina Zavertiaeva and Dennis Coates. The authors test the influence of country diversity on team performance in eSports measured by the total prize won during a year. We believe that eSports team diversity and its influence on team performance requires particular attention. First, we observe that teams in eSports may be much more global. It requires to think more precisely about the optimal composition of a team. Second, the role of eSports’ team characteristics is huge while the role of a coach is not so significant as in traditional sports. A lot of teams that participate in large tournaments even do not have a coach. Third, it is very easy to start to participate: gamers do not need expensive equipment or trainings with the best coaches. Each team can start to participate in online tournaments that are believed to be less prestigious than offline ones. Fourth, previous paper of Parshakov and Zavertiaeva (2015) find that gamers’ country of origin influences performance of gamers.
