"AI as a Driver of Social Change": Results of Petr Parshakov's Presentation at the II All-Russian Sber Volunteer Rally
The second All-Russian Sber Volunteer Forum was held in Ekaterinburg from June 26 to 27. Over 500 participants from Russia and other countries gathered to discuss ways to increase the effectiveness and sustainability of social business investments. The roundtable discussion, "Artificial Intelligence as a Tool for Social Development," featured a presentation by Petr Parshakov, Ph.D., professor and head of the International Laboratory of Intangible-driven Economy at the HSE University in Perm.
In his presentation, Petr demonstrated how AI is currently transforming the social sphere. Technology enables the analysis of large amounts of data, allowing us to identify the hidden needs of the population, optimize the work of social services, and increase the accessibility of services for vulnerable groups. Petr paid special attention to ethical aspects. In particular, he presented the Artificial Intelligence Ethics Index, developed at HSE University, which tracks the responsible use of AI solutions in different industries.
Petr also spoke about the evolving role of volunteers in AI. Today, new opportunities are emerging for volunteers, particularly among content providers (data contributors). These opportunities include data markup, testing AI services, and participating in research projects related to topics such as burnout. These tasks require new competencies, ranging from basic data skills to an understanding of the ethical aspects of working with AI.
The Forum demonstrated that a combination of modern technologies, volunteer involvement, and business social responsibility can provide a reliable foundation for sustainable development and the creation of real social heritage.
